SOS Commandos - Green Eagle

Picking up the "Sonic Action Tank" post, where I made a reference to the SOS Commandos line due to the use of the head sculpt of the "majorette´s" figure, I now present you the SOS COMMANDOS helicopter.

The COMMANDOS version of the Terror Cópter "Bad Eagle". "Secret Wars' Doom Chopper & Turbo Copter are both recasted versions of the Defense Copter from Mattel 1975 line "Heroes in Action".Thanks to Androm3loS

MIB, Gulliver, late 80s. Made in Portugal

The included figure varied. the picture on the box is taken from the movie "Atomic Cyborg" / "Hand of Steel" (depends on country). Androm3loS

Fresh out of the box, there were 2 bags (helicopter parts and figure´s weapons), instructions and sticker sheets.

The helicopter already came with some of the stickers applied. In time (in a long time) the glue lost its magic and some came with missing stickers that probably fell off the box.

Included helicopter parts.

The main stickers sheet was printed in (not so) glossy paper, and most of the times, trying to stick them to the vehicles is a waste of time.

Green Eagle. For us 80s kids, this may mean Predator or Rambo III. Or A-Team or so many other cool memories.

Included figures with these helicopters had their legs spread. Since they are made from PVC, soft rubber, and put into the vehicles while still warm (yes, can you believe it?), they came with strange (not so) natural poses. BUT, Gulliver included the stand so the figure ends up looking pretty good.

Fully armed and ready to rock! Diamond Toymaker´Schwarzenegger Commando "Spex" mold.

Figure: "Tony Turner". Caucasian version of the presented on the back of the cards and boxes. It has a torso and lower body made of plastic, arms and legs made of rubber, and head made out of a harder rubber substance. Funny how these were so popular in Brazil and some other countries. Poor construction and yet the demand was high. Well, the golden years!

Included weapons. Holster, pistol, uzi and rifle along with the stand are the common weapons of the Commandos. The chest piece is original for each of the 3 different figures with holes on the torso piece.

Missile rack up and down.

This was a very well conceived vehicle by Gulliver, the Brazilian toy company (which was a considerable force in the 80s market picking up the G.I.Joe fever and launching this much appreciated - even with all limitations - toy line, SOS COMMANDOS). Mounted guns. Belly laser cannons (back in the 80s all vehicles had lasers...) pad´s rocket launcher, Gatling gun and antennas.

Good old days. I still remember when I got this chopper. And that is the kind of memories that keep me going on doing this. Great toy!

"Secret Wars copters used a mold from the Defense Copter from Mattel 1975 line "Heroes in Action". Androm3loS

Outside gunner station!

Transporting wounded personnel...

The 6 missiles are shot off the missile rack.

S.O.S. COMMANDOS - Bad Ninja

One of TERROR´s soldiers from Gulliver´s S.O.S Commandos line, Bad Ninja, one of Mattone´s goons.

SOS COMMANDOS line is heavily based on Schwarzenegger Commando by Diamond Toymakers in 1986. Bad Ninja is a Led-Head mold in different colors.

MOC, Gulliver brinquedos Portugal factory (a Brazilian original), late 80s.

Included accessories.

Figure: Bad Ninja. One of the 3 molds that cover the entire Commando line, and subsequently, S.O.S. Commandos.

While the good guys carried pistols and holsters, the bad guys had the knifes and sheaths.

The RPGs are nice enough, but the grenade won´t go all the way inside the tube. When I was a younger and these toys were G.I.Joe´s "counterparts", we used to drill the rest of the tube so the rocket would fit. And it worked like a charm.

The UZI mount is amazing. The bad guys always had these arm connections with weapons. Uzi, chainsaw, crossbow. The knife, of course... has a greatly detailed grip for its era... and the blade too!

SOS COMMANDOS - Terror Cópter

Another wonderful item from this (not so) obscure line, SOS COMMANDOS from Gulliver.

For more on this line, history and background, check out the previous SOS COMMANDOS posts.

Packed with the infamous Gladios, this terrorcopter... make that TERROR CÓPTER (portuguese for terror helo... or copter if you will).

MOC, 198? no date stamp but if not around the late 80s, surely the early 90s.

The "Cópter" backpack is one of my favourite small vehicles/accessories ever. There were two, one for each faction. Wonderful set of pieces of plastic!

The mechanism was a little fragile and at times, very complex for its purpose. And then again, it was the height of Hasbro´s G.I.Joe power. Things had to be quality-driven.

The colors, the detail, the design, all very 80s... and I´m loving every single inch!

Included accessories for the figure. And as always, a 4-sticker sheet.

Included (random) figure: Gladios. As seen in SOS COMMANDOS - Bad Fire.

Way before Destro´s Annihilators and around the motorized action packs time, this great piece of machinery flies the skies!

SOS COMMANDOS - Mattone

Yet another great "Commando" - official and licensed - knock off product, a figure from Gulliver´s SOS COMMANDOS line.

Originally taken from Diamond Toys, the mold was adapted to Gulliver´s needs and capabilities and the result was a low-cost figure to all those who collected Comandos em Ação (Brazilian version of 3 3/4" G.I.Joe figures) made by Estrela.

Figures by Gulliver, card made in Portugal. Interesting.

Included items.

Accessories view.

Mattone, leader of TERROR, and Diamond Toy´s "Commando" Sawbones figure knock off.

Well done, Gulliver!

SOS COMMANDOS - Bad Eagle

Terror´s version of Green Eagle, this helicopter flies to battle SOS Commandos!

Curiously enough, Terror´s patch looks similar to BOPE´s insignia. BOPE (Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais) roughly means Special Police Operations Battalion. Special forces experienced in urban warfare. Today widely known after Elite Squad.

Made in Brazil, these Commando and Secret Wars knock-offs are gems for G.I.Joe collectors, since their history is connected.

Included parts. Label sheets lost most of their glue. Some of these stickers are partially paper, just like Masters of the Universe vintage vehicles, for example. With the passing of (a long) time, one cannot expect them to be that... sticky.

Gulliver produced 3 versions for Secret Wars. And for SOS COMMANDOS line, 2. This "Terror copter" is actually, probably, their best effort. The urban camo is pretty cool.

Stationed with missile racks and laser cannon up.

Detail shots. Weapons, weapons, weapons! A true gunship.

Included aleatory figure.

Figure accessories.

Figure: "Shark".

One of the coolest accessories ever, the combat knife with holster!
